Lawn Power

Mowing the lawn - love it or hate it, you need a good mower.

So which is best? Should you get a petrol or electric mower?

Here's some advice to help you choose.

Petrol mowers

  • Petrol mowers give the best cutting performance.
  • They have a wider cutting diameter, making mowing faster. This is good if you have a large area to mow.

  • However they can be a hassle to start and refuel. Plus you need to factor in ongoing petrol costs when you make your purchase.
  • They're noisy, often heavy and can be tiring to push.

Electric mowers

  • They are usually small and lightweight, which makes cutting easier.
  • They are comparatively quiet, fume-free and start at the press of a button.

  • Electric mowers are more suitable for smaller yards as they have a smaller cutting diameter.
  • You have to add the cost of extension cords and safety switches to the purchase price of most of the models.
