iPod cover

You will need:

• felt square or 25cm felt by the metre
• 35cm ribbon
• button
• scissors
• pinking shears - optional
• hand sewing needle
• embroidery thread
• pins
• sewing machine
• thread to match felt
• small hole punch or awl

How to make it:

1. Measure the length (9cm) and width (4cm) of your MP3 Player then work out 2 x L (9cm) + 7cm for flap = 25cm and W (4cm) + 4cm (seam allowance) = 8cm. So cut a piece of felt 25cm x 8cm.
2. Centre the iPod on the felt strip, fold the bottom edge up to top of the iPod and mark where the hole for the earphone cable will be. Remove the iPod and punch a small hole.
3. Cut a length of ribbon slightly longer than the felt and pin in place, folding the ends over to the back of the felt. Sew in place.
4. Optional – to add a loop, cut a piece of felt 6cm x 1.5cm. Fold in half and sew to the back of the cover. Sew a button to the front of the case underneath the flap.
5. Fold the lower edge up, place the iPod into the cover, insert the earphone jack into the hole and pin together down both sides. Carefully remove the iPod and sew down each side. Optional - continue the seam line down each side of the flap. Trim the seams using pinking shears for a decorative edge. Cut a small slit in the flap for the buttonhole.

Tip Instead of a button use velcro or a press stud as a closure.
