It's party time! But if your breath smells like a dog's you could find people giving you a wide berth. But how do you know if your breath smells?
Research shows 70 per cent of people are too embarrassed to tell someone their breath smells. Bad breath, or halitosis, is caused by an imbalance of bacteria in the mouth, throat and nose.
Causes for bad breath:
- Poor dental hygiene
- Alcohol, cigarettes, dairy and high-protein foods
- Some medications
How to keep breath fresh:
- Brush and floss daily.
- Drink plenty of water to keep your mouth moist.
- Don't forget to clean your tongue of bacteria too. Use a toothbrush, tongue scraper or teaspoon to remove the bacteria-laden coating on your tongue.
- Chew sugar-free gum, fennel or parsley to stimulate salvia production.
