Nikki Smith, 33, decided to start a page on GoFundMe, a crowdfunding website often used to raise money for charitable causes, to raise money to take her girls to Disney World on a holiday.

But almost immediately she copped backlash when the page went viral for all the wrong reasons.

One commenter accused her of ‘taking the absolute p**s’ while another wondered how on earth the moderators hadn’t caught her trying to scam the site.

Despite being shared over 18,000 times the appeal earned only two donations, totaling around $15, with most people struggling to sympathise with the woman, saying ‘there’s plenty of families of struggle with money that save for holdiays.’

Speaking with The Sun about it all, Nikki says she was inspired after a friend of her successfully used the site to fund a holiday.

The busy mum says she would never be able to save up enough on her own and she wanted to reward her well-behaved kids.

‘I just thought it would be the only way it would ever happen,’ she says.

‘I didn’t think people would react like that.’
