As Chris Hasson snapped photographs of his son Eden, 10, surfing at Samurai Beach, Port Stephens, he spotted a dark shadow.
‘I’m on the rocks taking photos of Eden,’ he recounted on his Facebook page.
‘I see a big dark shape and about to call the small group in and Eden takes off on a left and smashes it to the beach.
‘Just as he is taking off I see something out of the corner of my eye.’
Zooming in on the pictures he’d just taken, Chris was stunned to see that Eden had just done a backhand snap over the head of a 2.5m great white.
Eden thought the beast was ‘seaweed’.
‘I was lucky I didn’t fall off, I would have hit the great white shark,’ Eden told 7 News.
‘This photo is going straight to the pool room,’ his dad wrote on his Facebook page.
