It’s one of the most widespread rumours to have plagued the royal family for years – belief that Prince Harry’s biological father is not Prince Charles. Decades of gossip from around the world has rumoured that Princess Diana’s former lover, James Hewitt, is in fact the prince’s real father.
Now, Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell, has made a revelation about Harry while appearing on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here, seemingly putting those rumours to rest.
In a conversation with fellow campmate Jackie Gillies, talk turned to the royal family.
Jackie asked, ‘Do you believe that Prince Harry is Charles’ child?’
To which Paul replied, ‘Yes.’
Jackie continues to grill, ‘It isn’t the other…The orange hair?’
Paul added weight to his belief by stating, ‘She didn’t know James Hewitt when Harry was born. That’s fact. Five years into the marriage, she had Harry. And she hadn’t yet met James Hewitt. True.’
Jackie responded, ‘Case closed!’
In an interview last year with Seven’s Sunday Night, Hewitt was asked by Melissa Doyle if he was Harry’s biological father, to which he responded point blank: ‘No, I am not.’
Hewitt had an affair with the princess for five years from 1986, when he was an officer in the British army. At the time rumours were circulating that Prince Charles was also having an affair with his current wife, Camilla Parker-Bowles.
Once the affair became public knowledge, James Hewitt and Princess Diana broke off their relationship. The rumour gained a lot of traction when Harry hit his teen years, and he started to share similar characteristics to Hewitt – mainly their shared orange hair.
