It seems even the Queen isn’t immune to finding the odd bug in her food.
Royal fans have been given a rare glimpse of the Queen’s sweet sense of humour in a new book about the eating habits of the British monarchy.
According to Dinner at Buckingham Palace, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip are given feedback cards after every meal cooked by their private chefs.
While the royal pair usually leave the card blank, a hilarious anecdote describes the way the Queen reacted when she found a dead slug in her salad.
She left the dead slug inside the card and sent it back to the kitchen, writing: ‘I found this in the salad – could you eat it?‘
The Queen does not often write remarks in her feedback card and only does to make notes of her likes and dislikes for future reference.
The 92-year-old reportedly has a few favourite meals – including a vegetable broth from the Caribbean, named callaloo.
The royal is also said to avoid garlic and only eats strawberries when they are in season.
