An Australian woman who was stabbed 11 times by a man she met on Tinder has shared shocking pictures of her scars.
Doctor Angela Jay was brutally attacked by Paul Lambert, 36, after he broke into her home on the NSW coast in November 2016.
Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, Angela shared images of her scarred legs as she prepares to embark on a gruelling hike along the Kokoda Track to raise funds for charity.
‘The gruelling Kokoda Track seems such an impossible feat! Sometimes I think I’m crazy for committing to the #trek4respectkokoda this April – it will be (by far) my most physically challenging adventure yet…
‘Then I remember that my legs can do ANYTHING! Despite 11 stab wounds and losing a huge amount of blood, they found the strength to lift me off the ground and RUN!’ Angela wrote.
‘They carried me to freedom… they gave me my life… they gave me a second chance.
‘My legs are so STRONG and with them I will take on Kokoda. Feeling grateful every step of the way. Remembering those who have had their lives stolen in the name of “love” and can’t walk beside me.
‘Pledging to create a world where family violence is unthinkable,’ Angela concluded her post, sharing a link where people can sponsor her.
On an Everyday Hero page set up to raise funds for White Ribbon, Angela wrote movingly of her experience.
‘On the 3rd November 2016, after a brief relationship ended, I was almost murdered and set on fire in my own home. During the assault, I was stabbed 11 times and doused in petrol before fleeing for my life,’ she explained.
‘Many women are not so lucky. In Australia 1-2 women PER WEEK are murdered my a current or ex-partner.
‘I am determined that these brave women are never forgotten, and they are remembered as amazing people–not just numbers or statistics. I will walk for those that no longer can, and I will be the voice for those who have yet to find theirs.’
